My Writing

​

     I'm a traditionally published author of three novels for young adult readers. My last two novels, Powers and Choices, were published by Roaring Brook, the young adult division of Macmillan.

​

     Powers is a young adult paranormal novel, where two teens unlock each other’s latent powers. Choices, also for a teen audience, is science fiction, based on the parallel worlds theory. Both novels use first person, alternating or splitting points-of-view.

​

     Choices, was an American Library Association Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers, was on the New York Public Library Books for the Teen Age list, a Stellar Award winner (Canadian Literature of the Fantastic) and a Sunburst award finalist. It also received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews, and accolades from School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, and others.

     My special interest is the speculative fiction genre, especially science fiction, fantasy, ghost stories, horror, and dystopian fiction. I love novels with a dash of adventure and a dose of humor.

    I'm an active member of SCBWI (Society of Children's Writers and Illustrators) and of SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.) I've presented workshops on writing at conferences and writing retreats. In 2014, I served as an area representative for SCBWI and as a YA Mentor.
